Mary Antoniotti

Mary Antoniotti, 92, of Elmhurst Twp., died Wednesday at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home, where she was a resident. She is the widow of Robert Antoniotti, who died in 1985.

Born May 17, 1922, in Scranton, daughter of the late Charles I. and Alice M. (McCormack) Seeley, she was educated in the Elmhurst schools. Mary was a member of St. Eulalia’s Church in Roaring Brook Twp.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary Kay Crispoloni and husband, John, Duryea; her son, Eugene Antoniotti and companion, Janet Lown, Elmhurst Twp.; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved dog, “Prince.”

She was also preceded in death by her son, Robert Antoniotti, on June 8, 2008.

A Mass will be celebrated: Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Eulalia’s Church, 214 Blue Shutters Road, Roaring Brook Twp.

Interment: Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp.

Margaret Karanik

Margaret Karanik, of Dunmore, passed away peacefully in her sleep into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday morning. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Alexander Karanik, who died September 24, 2009.

Born on December 2, 1925, in Scranton, she was the daughter of Alex and Mary Babich. Margaret was preceded in death by her brothers Alex, John, Michael, Joseph and Theodore Babich and sisters Mary Farnett, Ann Hrebin, and Elizabeth Krochta.

She was a loving mother and grandmother, affectionately known as ‘Doe’ by her grandchildren. Margaret’s greatest legacy will be the love she showed for her children and grandchildren.

Margaret is survived by her four daughters; Nancy Ferraro and husband William; Marina Boylan and husband Brian; Margaret Ruddy and husband James; and Celine Oakey and husband Matthew. Also surviving are her grandchildren; James Ruddy and wife Jennifer, Angelina Brown and husband Michael; Amy Bracey and husband Elton, Leah Truncali and husband Jason, Maggie Patek and husband James, Megan Johnson and husband Eric, Molly Boylan, Samantha and Rebecca Oakey. And her great grandchildren; Dean Baresse, Declan Ruddy, Mikayla and Skyler Brown.

Margaret was a devoted member of Grace Bible Church in Dunmore. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

Funeral services will be conducted: Monday at 10:00 am in the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home , 1810 Sanderson Avenue, Scranton, PA with Rev. Terry Ribble as officiating clergy.

Dr. Walter P. Knight

Dr. Walter P. Knight died December 16, 2014. Dr. Knight, a lifelong resident of Scranton leaves behind his wife Cheryl Dixon Knight; his son Walter P. Knight II; and daughter Holly A. Knight.

Dr. Knight retired in 2006 after a career as a Podiatric Surgeon.

Services will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family.

Arthur J. “Butch” Masters

Arthur J. “Butch” Masters, Spring Brook Twp., died Monday at home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He and his wife, the former Laurie Addyman, would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on April 28.

Born March 19, 1956, he was a lifelong resident of Spring Brook Twp. A graduate of North Pocono High School, he continued his education at Nortel. Art worked for GS Tek, telephone contractors for the Tobyhanna Army Depot, as the sight manager, only leaving due to his illness saying, “It was the best job with the best people.” Art was passionate about his hobbies that are too numerous to mention. He could make anything he read about. He loved his Harley and riding with his friends. His love for his family was limitless. Art simply loved his life.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, Michael Masters; and daughter, Joy Taylor, at home; his grandsons, Bobby Taylor, Harrisburg; Bradley Taylor, New York City; and Patrick Taylor, at home; his sister, Linda Schon Durkin and husband, Tom, Center Valley; five nieces, two nephews, five great-nephews, two great-nieces and a great-great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Malone Schon Masters Konopka; and a son, Aaron Meneskie.

We’d like to thank Dr. Lisa Thomas and staff for their wonderful care and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for sending the best angels to take care of him, allowing him to die at home in his own bed on his own terms. We’d also like to thank all our prayer angels, some we knew, some were complete strangers. God bless you all.

A celebration of his life will be held: Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Duffy & Snowdon Funeral Home, 401 Church St., Moscow, with a memorial service at 8.

Warren Tayburn Sr.

Warren Tayburn Sr. of Jermyn, PA died Thursday at Commonwealth Hospice in Scranton following a brief illness.

Born May 24, 1938 in Somerville, NJ, he was the son of the late Charles and Violet (Philhower) Tayburn. Warren was a resident of Pennsylvania the last 40 years. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a butcher with David Elliott Poultry, Inc.

Warren was an avid fisherman, and hunter. He enjoyed baking wonderful goodies for his family. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

Surviving are his son Warren Tayburn Jr. of Madison Twp. PA, (2) daughters: Glenda Witt and husband Mike of MS; and Doreen Kruchinski and husband Tony of Moscow; (1) brother: Richard Tayburn of Rome, NY; (1) sister: Ruth Edick of Boonville, NY; a step-son: Blane Skelton and wife CarolAnn of Lake Ariel, PA; (1) step- daughter: Cynthia Skelton of Lake Ariel, PA; (8) grandchildren; and (9) great-grandchildren; and (3) step- grandchildren; and a step-great granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his former wife and caregiver Faith Wharton; with whom he resided.

He was preceded in death by (4) sisters: Elizabeth, Frances, Shirley and Esther; and (5) brothers: William, Walter, Phillip, Thomas, and twin brother Wendell.

Rose A. Shaffer, 64, of Madison Township died Wednesday in the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger / CMC in Scranton. She is the widow of David W. Shaffer Sr. who died February 20, 2002.

Born December 15, 1949 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late James D. Fox and Carma Helen (Swingle) Fox. She was a graduate of Riverside High School, and prior to her retirement was employed by Mountain View Nursing Center.

Surviving are (2) daughters: Cyrilla M. Gillette and husband David of Madison Twp. PA, and Laurie Shaffer of Pottsville, PA; (4) sons: David W. Shaffer Jr. of Covington Twp. PA, Brian J. Shaffer of Dunmore, PA, Ryan D. Shaffer of Covington Twp. and James R. Fox of Old Forge, PA; (3) sisters: Karen Zindle of Gouldsboro, PA, Sharon Fox of Scranton, and Brenda Sheerer of Old Forge, PA; (4) brothers: Bob Fox of Madison Twp., Ernie Fox of Moosic, William Fox of Scranton and Thomas Fox of Scranton; (10) grandchildren and (13) great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by (4) sisters; and (3) brothers.

Pearl A. Shay, 75, of Scranton, and formerly of Gouldsboro, PA and Pottstown, PA, died Friday at Geisinger/CMC in Scranton following an illness. She was the widow of William E. Shay who died in 1996.

Born May 26, 1939 in Centralia, WV, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Ella (Farthing) Facemire. Prior to her retirement, Pearl was employed by Kelly’s Motor Coach Inn in Gouldsboro and Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. She was a member of the American Legion Post # 274, Auxiliary of Gouldsboro, PA

She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her daughter Teresa L. “Terry” Spiese and husband Milt of Pottstown, PA; (4) sons: Jeffrey G. Shay and wife Janice of Shenandoah Junction, WV, Edward W. Shay and wife Kathleen of Gouldsboro, PA, Franklin N. Shay of Shenandoah Junction, WV, and Timothy W. Shay of Moscow, PA; (7) grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister Mary Lou Evans; and brothers Lee and Jack Facemire.

Anna M. Mileski, 105, a resident of the Green Ridge Health Care Center in Scranton died Saturday, November 29th morning following an illness. She is the widow of Theodore J. Mileski who died July 25, 1994.

Born October 15, 1909 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Gurskas. She was educated in the Scranton schools and was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scranton.

Surviving are her daughter Marie M. Miller and husband Lance of Broomall, PA; her son: Theodore R.”Ted” Mileski and wife Joan of Throop, PA; (5) grandchildren; and (13) great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother Peter W. Gurskas; and sisters: Mary Wood and Helen Richards.

Ruth J. Maus, 86, of Dickson City and formerly of Scranton died Saturday morning in Geisinger/CMC in Scranton following a brief illness. She is the wife of Bruce Maus. The couple celebrated 60 years of marriage on July 5th.

Born August 2, 1928 in Lake Ariel, PA, she is the daughter of the late Clyde and Florence Eshelman.

Ruth was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, and prior to her retirement was employed by Golo Shoes of Dunmore, PA. Ruth was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Scranton, PA.

Surviving in addition to her husband are (2) sons: Bruce Maus and wife Denise of West Haven, CT, and Gary Maus and wife Donna of Durham, CT; (2) sisters: Janet Eshelman of Scranton, PA, and Pat Dickey and husband Joseph of Moscow, PA; (1) brother: James Eshelman and wife Paula of Scranton; (5) grandchildren: Kyle McGrath, Bruce Maus, Jerry Maus, Bailey Maus, and Taylor Maus; and nieces and nephews.

Marian S. “Mim” Gockley

Marian S. “Mim” Gockley, 89, of Clarks Summit died peacefully on Tuesday at Abington Manor where she was a guest. She is the widow of Richard L. Gockley who died March 10, 1986. They met on a blind date, and were happily married for 34 years.

Born July 21, 1925 in Altoona, PA, she was a graduate of Altoona High School. She found her calling in nursing, and earned her RN degree from Moses Taylor Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1950. Passionate about geriatric care, she worked at Mountain Rest Nursing Home, and retired after serving as Director of Nursing.

A woman of boundless energy, she was very active as a lifelong member of the Clarks Green United Methodist Church. Marian was an avid bowler, golfer, and unwavering supporter of her children and grandchildren. She possessed a keen sense of humor, and always enjoyed a good laugh. She introduced her children to Monty Python and Benny Hill, for which they will always be grateful.

Marian was a compassionate, generous, strong willed and intelligent woman. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her daughter Ellen Ramsey and husband James of Kansas City, MO; her son Kurt Gockley and wife Larissa (Stec) of Clarks Summit; her sister Fran Foster of Silver Creek, NY; her brother Joseph Sharer Jr. of Northeast, PA; grandchildren: Conrad, Blake, and Alex Gockley; and family pets: Jill, Jack, Marley, Ziggy, Mary, Noomi and Maggie.

A remembrance gathering will take place: November 23, 2014 at 12:30 pm in the Raddison Hotel, 700 Lackawanna Avenue, Scranton, PA.

Ann Marie Scalese of Spring Brook Twp. died Saturday evening in the Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton following an illness. She was the widow of James P. Scalese, who died in 1996.

Born Oct. 2, 1928, in Scranton, daughter of the late Andrew and Anna (Cizik) Strenecky, Ann Marie was a longtime member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Moscow and its Altar and Rosary Society. For the past 26 years, Ann Marie had been devoted to the Adoration Prayer Chapel at St. Catherine’s Church, and also served on the bereavement dinner committee.

Surviving are a daughter, Joanne M. Conon, Spring Brook Twp.; a son, James P. Scalese and wife, Rosemary, Haddonfield, N.J.; a brother, Dr. Bernard Strenecky and wife, Eileen, Louisville, Ky.; daughter-in-law, Annette Scalese, Moosic; five grandchildren, Jonathan Conon, and wife, Kimberly; Garett Conon and fiancée, Lindsey Mazzola-Paluska; Sarah Scalese, Rebecca Scalese and Rachel Scalese; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Thomas A. Scalese; her son-in-law, Andrew Conon and her brother, Andrew Strenecky.

A Mass will be celebrated: Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Church St., Moscow, with the Rev. Robert Simon, pastor, as celebrant and Father Mark Scalese, S.J., as con-celebrant.

E.J. Walsh

E.J. Walsh, 20, of Scranton, passed away Saturday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton following a severe asthma attack.

Born July 7, 1994, in Scranton, he is the only child of Edward J. and Mary T. (McDonald) Walsh. E.J. is a 2013 graduate of Scranton High School, was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society for Protective Services at the Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County and was employed by Meals on Wheels of Lackawanna County.

E.J. was an avid Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics fan. He enjoyed attending Mets and Red Sox games with his dad, his best buddy. He loved haunted houses and vacations with his mom and dad, and was a passionate online video gamer. He enjoyed spending time with his cousins and playing with his dog, “Callah,” and his cat, “Boo.”

The loss to his family will be insurmountable. “To the World he may have been a somebody, but to us he was the World.”

Surviving in addition to his parents are his uncles and aunts, Robert McDonald, Richard and Nancy McDonald, Susan and Richard Mannherz, Thomas McDonald and Jennifer McDonald; and nine cousins, Jenny, Katie, Ricky, Brian, Erin, Ellie, James, Brendan and Aislinn.

Raietta Craig Frable, 94, of Jackson, NJ and formerly of Roaring Brook Twp. died Friday morning at her home following an extended illness. She is the wife of Walford Frable. The couple celebrated 76 years of marriage on October 8, 2014.

Born October 30, 1920 in Avoca, PA, she is the daughter of the late John and Lillian (Webb) Craig. Raietta was a member of the Spring Brook Congregational Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are (6) daughters: Edith Bennechi of Bloomfield, NJ, Raietta Garromane of Scranton, PA, Charlotte Reilly of Jackson Twp.NJ, Rosemary Eischens of Brainard, MN, Janet Garrduno of Moffit, CO, and Dawn Tarity of Trenton, SC; (1) son: Walford Frable Jr. of Anchorage, AL; (23) grandchildren; (43) great-grandchildren; and (12) great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Joyce Waszak.

Thomas Clark, 39, of Scranton and formerly of Throop died Tuesday evening at Geisinger Wyoming Valley in Wilkes-Barre following an illness.

Born in Scranton, he is the son of the late William and Lorraine (Pawlowski) Clark.

Charles F. Lisko III

Charles F. Lisko III, 57, of Eynon, PA died Thursday morning at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton following a brief illness. His wife is the former Joann Wassel.

Born February 12, 1957 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Charles F. Jr. and Eleanor (Gatavetskas) Lisko. He attended Scranton Techical High School and was employed by Fastenal Corporation of Jessup, PA.

Charles was the sound technician for several music acts, most notably “Night Moves” an Elvis tribute act.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter Roxanne Seymour and husband Phillip of Scranton, PA; (2) sons: Charles F. Lisko IV of Scranton and James Lisko of Eynon, PA; (1) sister: Carol Mohyla of Nicholson, PA; (2) grandchildren: Kayla Seymour and Jeremy Seymour; aunts and uncles; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister Theresa Thomas in 2008.

Funeral services will be conducted: Saturday at 6:00 pm in the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Avenue Scranton, PA with Rev. Arthur W. Davis as officiating clergy.

Frank E. Novitch

Frank E. Novitch, 89, of Nicholson died Sunday morning in Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA in Scranton following an illness. His wife, the former Ruth Schultz died February 21, 1986. Born November 16, 1924 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Frank and Olga (Loch) Novitch.

Frank was raised on the family farm in Lenox township. Beginning in 1945, Frank worked with his brother Willard at W.W. Novitch, Inc. International Truck and Farm Equipment Dealer in Nicholson, PA. Frank was awarded the star salesman” ring” in 1971 for being in the elite top 100 International Harvester salespersons in the country. Frank retired in 2010 after 65 years in the business.

Frank was also involved with the family farms, and owned a trucking company for 50 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards. He was avid Boston Red Sox and San Francisco 49er’s fan, and was known for his keen sense of humor.

Frank was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hop Bottom, PA, serving as trustee, elder, president, financial secretary, treasuer, vice president, sunday school teacher, and building committee chairman. He was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scranton.

Surviving are (3) sons: Frank E. Novitch of Nicholson, PA, Mark W. Novitch and wife Cinda of Nicholson, PA and Brian S. Novitch and wife Victoria of Stillwater, MN; (6) grandchildren: Michael F. Novitch and wife Amanda, Heidi M. Shimonis and husband Jim, Lisa N. Truesdale and husband Ron, Nancy R. Novitch, Matthew B. Novitch, and Karen M. Novitch; and (8) great-grandchildren: Julianna and Jacob Jarnigan; Haileigh, Jackson, Benjamin, Lilyana Novitch; and Lincoln Mark & Gabrielle Truesdale.

Frank was preceded in death by his brother Willard Novitch in 1997 and his sister-In-law Hildegarde Novitch on September 29, 2014.

Funeral services will be conducted: Friday at 11:00 am in First Presbyterian Church, 65 State Street, Nicholson, PA with Pastor Margaret Hartmann as officiating clergy.

Hildegarde Novitch

Hildegarde Novitch, 93, of Nicholson, and a resident of Mountain View Care Center died early Monday morning at Geisinger/ CMC in Scranton following a brief illness. She is the widow of Willard W. Novitch who died in 1997.

Born in Brewer, Saskatchewan, Canada, she is the daughter of the late Rev. Carl F. and Hulda (Hitzemann) Wyppich.

Hildegarde was a graduate of Scranton Central High School, and the Lackawanna Business College. Prior to her retirement, she was involved with her husband’s business W.W. Novitch International Harvester Dealership of Nicholson, PA. She was previously employed as a bookkeeper with Snee and Sunday of Scranton. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church of Hop Bottom, PA; and a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Scranton where she briefly served as church organist. She was also an active member of the Nicholson Women’s Club and strong supporter of the Nicholson Volunteer Fire Department.

Hildegarde was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family, especially her precious grandchildren. She will be remembered for her sassy sense of humor, brilliant smile and generous heart.

Surviving are two sons: Wayne W. Novitch of Nicholson, PA, and Raymond W. Emma was a longtime member of the Providence United Methodist Church in Scranton, and was currently a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Scranton.

Anna Savas Healey, of Scranton, died Saturday at her home following an illness. She is the wife of Stephen G. Healey. The couple celebrated 42 years of marriage on July 30th.

Born in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late Peter and Virginia (Rayias) Savas. She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and a lifelong member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Scranton. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Daughters of Penelope. She was employed for many years in her family business, Peter’s Lunch in Scranton.

Anna was a gifted singer, and studied voice in New York in her younger years. She had an incredible passion for Greek cooking and baking; Anna ‘s kitchen was always filled with sweets for everyone to enjoy. She also enjoyed crocheting and quilting, and was a very talented crafter, specializing in beaded ornaments. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her God daughters.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Charlie and Michael Peters.

Magdalena Shimkus, 87, of Scranton died Monday evening in the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger/ CMC in Scranton following a brief illness. She is the widow of Stanley Shimkus who died May 20, 1987.

Born October 5, 1926 in Mazeikiai, Lithuania, she is the daughter of the late Ignus and Magdalena Rimkus. She arrived in the United States on June 17, 1949, and previously lived in Fleetville, PA before moving to Scranton. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Green Ridge Nursing Home and Holiday Manor of Scranton. She is a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish, and formerly St. Joseph’s Church in Scranton.

Surviving are her daughter: Sally Hemmler and husband Paul of Scranton; her granddaughter Michelle McEathron and husband Steve; and (3) great-grandchildren: Kayci, Jordan and Nolan; and nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her brother John Rimkus and sister Augustina Getneris.

Born November 15, 1934 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late Robert and Claire (Cunnion) McGuire. She was employed for 38 years at Bill’s Shoprite Supermarket in the Bakery Department. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Moscow, PA.

Surviving are (3) daughters: Patti Seng, Peggy Giannetto and husband Thomas, and Jackie held and Her son’s companion : Beverly Jantzi; (8) grandchildren; and (6) great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by (4) brothers: John, Robert, Gerald and Kenneth; and (2) sisters: Mary Fereese and Winnie Rinaldi; and her son, Francis A. Seng Jr. in 2013.

She will be dearly missed by her family; and will remain forever in their hearts.

Eleanor Elizabeth Isaak, 93, of Gouldsboro entered into eternal life Saturday, August 30th, 2014 in Reading Hospital after a brief illness. She is the widow of Elmer W. “Ike” Isaak who passed away December 13, 2006.

Born May 19, 1921 in Gouldsboro, PA, she is the daughter of the late Rowland and Linnie Bender. Eleanor was a 1939 graduate of Coolbaugh Township High School. Prior to her retirement in 1983, she was employed as a secretary at Tobyhanna Army Depot.

Eleanor was a life long member of the Gouldsboro United Methodist Church, and served as church treasurer; and was involved with many church activities throughout her life.

Eleanor enjoyed extensive traveling with her husband and friends, visiting much of the United States. She was an avid reader and collector of antique china and glassware. Eleanor enjoyed bowling, and was a member of several mixed bowling leagues.

She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Surviving are her daughter Donna S. Matten of Shillington, PA; her grandson Rhett P. Matten and wife Jennifer of Sinking Spring, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother James R. Bender.

Annamae P. McHale

Annamae P. (Konopka) McHale, 81, died surrounded by love at her home on Hemlock Drive on Wednesday evening, August 27, 2014.

Born October 28, 1932, in Tobyhanna, PA, she was the daughter of Alexander and Anna (Shimko) Konopka. She graduated from Coolbaugh School in 1950, as valedictorian, and she never stopped learning or setting a good example. She often gave of her last dime so others did not have to go without, she listened to and encouraged everyone, and she made time to polka dance. Spending time with family and friends was Annamae’s foremost passion in life, but she had others, such as baking, preparing gourmet meals for her cat Neo, and watching Notre Dame football (including praying the rosary for victory). She was seldom seen on a drive around town without her three dogs: Sophie, Dakota, and Naki who provided unconditional love, comfort, and companionship.

Annamae was employed by the Pocono Mountain School District for the 41 years prior to her passing, serving countless children of all ages during a career that began as a school bus driver, and finishing it in the position of executive secretary at Clear Run Intermediate School.

She is survived by six children: Mary Ann McHale (Jeff Corson), Loganton, PA; Robert (Julie) McHale, Thornhurst, PA; Julia McHale, Tobyhanna, PA; John McHale (Anna Koepke), Ashley, PA; Eugene (Melissa) McHale, Hanover Township, PA; and David (Cheri McCrossin), Canadensis, PA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, her brother Alexander (Kris) Konopka Jr, Tannersville, PA, her uncle Mike Shimko, her aunt Helen Freach, a niece and nephew, as well as “adopted children” John Hay and June Bialczak.

Annamae was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Thomas A. McHale, and their oldest son, Thomas J. McHale.

The family wishes to thank the countless individuals who touched her life with their presence, prayers, love and friendship; you meant so much to her.

John F. Hollister

John F. Hollister, 69, of Covington Township died Monday afternoon at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home in Elmhurst Twp. PA after an extended illness. His wife of 43 years is the former Doris Croom.

Born February 7, 1945 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Burkhouse) Hollister.

John was employed for over 30 years with International/ Akzo Nobel Salt Co. and was employed by Mid Valley Contracting, and prior to his illness, was employed by Covington Township in the Maintenance Department. Early in his working career, he worked for the Arthur Hughes Dodge Dealership in Daleville.

John was a devoted member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Moscow, and served as usher for many years. He was a life member of the Covington Township Fire Co. and Life member of the Moscow Fire Company. He served as Assistant Chief and Chief of the Covington Township Fire Department. John was a member of the Northeast PA Fireman’s Federation, and the Keystone Fire Chief’s Association. John also served on the Covington Township Planning Commission.

The family would like to thank everyone who helped care for Johnny, especially the nurses and staff of St. Mary’s Villa and Dr. Brereton.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter Carrie Goul and husband Steven of Madison Twp. Born in Scranton, PA she is the daughter of the late Catherine and William Thorburn. She graduated with honors from Scranton Technical High School. Mary worked for many years at the Third National Bank in Scranton, and also for the municipality of Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania.

Mary’s family would like to thank Dr. Nicholas Dodge for his dedication and compassion. Thank you also to the staff at Green Ridge Health Care Center and Celtic Hospice for their caring and kindness.

Joseph J. Severini

Joseph J. Severini of Scranton went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday morning at Geisinger/CMC in Scranton following an illness. His wife of 47 years is the former Louise Genovese.

Born April 1, 1931, in Scranton, Pa., he is the son of the late Alfredo and Ausilia (Antonini) Severini. Joseph was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a 1958 graduate of the University of Scranton, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business management. Joseph also pursued post graduate studies at the University of Virginia.

Joseph was a beloved husband, loving father and proud grandfather. The joys of his life were his children and his granddaughter, Ceilia. He loved God, his family, his country and his Italian heritage. He enjoyed visiting with his many friends at various locations in the area. Joseph was a true gentleman who made friends easily and everyone loved him. His smile lit up a room. Joseph also had a special place in heart for the dogs he had throughout his life, Beauty, Killian, Shannie, and he leaves behind his beloved canine companion, Amy.

Joseph enjoyed a 33-year career in banking with Northeastern/PNC Bank, retiring as a Group Vice President in 1992. He was member of Elm Park United Methodist Church, the Scranton Chamber of Commerce, the Armed Forces Day Committee, the United Nations Committee, the Mid Valley Rotary Club, the Scranton Kiwanis Club and the Downtown Scranton Business Association. He served on many boards throughout the area including the American Heart Association, Easter Seals, Meals on Wheels of Lackawanna County, United Cerebral Palsy and the Economic Development Council. He also served as president of the Scranton Neighborhood Housing Association and was a recipient of the Frank O’Hara Award given by the University of Scranton.

Joseph’s family would like to thank the Moses Taylor DaVita Dialysis unit, the Geisinger/CMC physicians, nurses and staff, and the many home health professionals who lovingly cared for him.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Jennifer L. Severini-Kresock and husband, Christopher of Clarks Summit, Pa.; and Faith J. Severini of Clarks Summit, Pa.; a granddaughter, Ceilia Severini; a sister-in-law, Angela Genovese of Dunmore, Pa.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Ann Genovese of Dunmore, Pa.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Gray Bossi.

Richard John Matthews III

Richard John Matthews III, born October 3, 1967 in Ridgewood, New Jersey, passed away on August 7, 2014 at his fiancée’s home surrounded by family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Sally G. Matthews of Boca Raton, Florida; sister, Nanette Field and husband, Karl of Flemington, N.J.; sister, Pamela Otto and husband, Craig of Boca Raton, Fla.; and a brother, Wesley Matthews and wife, Nicole of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also surviving are six adoring nieces, Lindsay, Whitney, Alexandra, Morgan, Tiffany and Elizabeth; as well as two admiring nephews, Brandon and Matthew. He is also survived by his fiancée, Tammy Stafford and her sons, Max and Zach, of Palos Verdes, Calif.

He is predeceased by a brother, Todd; and father, Dr. Richard J. Matthews II.

Richard resided in Dalton, Pennsylvania and graduated from Abington Heights in 1986 in Clarks Summit, Pa. He attended Penn State University, where he studied biology. Richard moved to San Diego in 1988, where he attended San Diego State and worked for Scantibodies Laboratories in Santee, Calif. He founded Systems Carpet Cleaning in Del Mar, Calif., which he had run successfully since 1990.

In 2000, Richard founded Hooligan Racing Products, a custom motorcycle parts design and manufacturing business. Rich has a U.S. Patent pending on a motorcycle suspension adjustment tool for field use.

Rich fell in love with San Diego 26 years ago and had a fantastic life filled with warm friendships and heart-filled laughter. He could be found almost every morning on Dog Beach with his faithful sidekick, Pluto. Rich had the ability to light up any room with his presence, infectious smile and open arms. He will be deeply missed, but will live on forever in our memories.

A service will be held at: Covenant Presbyterian Church, 550 Madison Avenue, Scranton, Pa., on Saturday, August 23 at 11 a.m.

Irene Arlene (Lindner) Rybitski, 75, of Hammond, NY and formerly of North Pocono died Saturday at her home following a lengthy illness. She is the wife of George P. “Rocco” Rybitski.

Born November 1, 1938 in Cortez, PA, she is the daughter of the late William and Norma (Webster) Lindner. She was educated in the North Pocono schools, and prior to relocating to New York she was employed in real estate sales. She was previously employed in the security department at Big Bass Lake and had worked in the Garment Industry and at local restaurants.

Irene loved to fish and was very talented at crocheting. She will be dearly missed by her loving family.

Surviving in addition to her husband are (2) daughters: Leilani Hutchins Raguckas of Taylor, PA, and Georgina Rybitski of Hammond, NY; her sister: Beverly Kopacz and husband John of Redwood, NY; and her brother: Charles “Bucky” Lindner of Covington Township, PA; (10) grandchildren: Douglas, Natasha, William, Duane, Ilene, Chisen, Tera, Kyra, Devante and Lashyla; her brother-In-laws: Robert Rybitski and Michael Rybitski and her sister-In-law: Marianne Bryant-Rybitski (11) great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Ilene Rybitski in 1993; and her sons: William Hutchins in 1980, and Douglas Hutchins Jr. in 2002 and her brother William Lindner.

Henry Jarrel Terry

Henry Jarrel Terry, 73, a resident of Seminole, FL and formerly of Moscow died Saturday evening at Sun Coast Hospice in Pinellas Park, FL following an illness. His wife is the former Frances “Fran” Kenosky.

Born December 17, 1940 in McGehee, AR, he is the son of the late Rev. Henry and Hazel (Bobbitt) Terry. He is a US Marine Corps veteran serving 1958-1962 with the 3rd Battalion – 8th Marines, achieving the rank of Lance Corporal, Rifle Expert and Squad Leader.

Prior to his retirement, Jarrel was employed in the trucking Industry with Penske Logistics. He was previously employed by McLean Trucking Company and Consolidated Freightways. He was a member of Teamsters Union locals # 135, # 886 and # 229. He was known as “Superman” over the citizens ban radio. He was raised in the Nazarene faith.

Jarrel loved gardening, visits to Jamaica, and traveling the Islands of the Caribbean. His generosity and smiling face will be dearly missed by many.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter Cynthia Freeman of Avon, IN; his son Jonathan Terry of Old Forge, PA; and grandson Mitchell Freeman; one sister: Sherry Conaway of Indiana; two brothers: John Terry of Huntsville, AL, and Thomas Julian Terry of Madison, AL; three brothers-In-law: Jerry Kenosky of Spring Brook Twp., and fiancee Deborah Hafler of Moscow, James Kenosky and wife Sandra of Spring Brook Twp. and William Kenosky of Hawaii; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-In-law, Jean Kenosky of Moscow.

James H. Peters, of Roaring Brook Twp., Pa., passed away on July 23, 2014, surrounded by his family.

James, born in Athol, Mass., was the son of the late John R. and Helen C. (Dube) Peters.He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia A. (Miller) Peters; along with four children, Jamie A. Peters, Gouldsboro, Pa.; James E. and wife, Andreia, Upper Pottsgrove, Pa.; Judi Peters and husband, John Svoboda, Slatington, Pa.; and Jennifer and husband, Matthew Cortazar, Carbondale, Pa.; six grandchildren, Courtney and husband, David Paden; Drew Scarantino and fiancée, Vivian Otero; Derek Peters, Sara Cortazar, Matthew Cortazar and Hannah Peters White; a great-grandchild, Drue Paden; a sibling, Robert Peters, Lehigh Acres, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

James enlisted in the Navy upon graduating high school in 1952. He served on the Fire Control Team aboard the USS Siboney. During his enlistment, he attended technical schools in both Philadelphia and Washington D.C. This led Jim to a 50-year career as an engineer in the cable television industry, where he touched many lives throughout New England and Pennsylvania and was celebrated as a pioneer in his field.

Jim’s greatest joy came from spending time with family on Cape Cod, along with fishing, woodworking and watching the Red Sox.

To celebrate Jim’s life, there will be a graveside service held July 31 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Memorial Cemetery.

Nicole Nikki Searfoss Goudy, passed away July 19 in Regional Hospital Scranton. She was the wife of Howard Goudy.

Born in Scranton, she is the daughter of the late James Earl Jefferson and Ann Marie Jenkins.

Surviving are two sons Lamont Ray and David, both of Pa; stepson Howard Alexander, Va.; one daughter Tina, Pa.; 4 brothers David and Norman, Pa, Tommy, Ca, and Tony, Fl; two sisters Marion and Debbie, Pa; and a niece Deborah Davis who held an extra special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her sister Tina.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, daughter of Thomas Vest and Carol Kahanic Beader, she attended Mid Valley High School. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Throop.

Mary M. Kaczor, 87, of Jefferson Township, and formerly of Delray Beach, FL died Saturday at the Carbondale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following an illness.

Born August 28, 1926 in Mayfield, PA, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary (Teleck) Zagarski. She was educated in the Honesdale schools, and earlier in her life resided in New York City and New Jersey. Mary was owner and operator of M & M Giant Submarine Shop in downtown Scranton for many years.

Mary was a very loving mother and grandmother. She loved dancing, and was an avid fan of horse racing. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are (2) sons: Edmund D. Kaczor and wife Monica of Jefferson Township, PA, Kenneth J. Kaczor and wife Ana of Lake Worth, FL; (3) grandchildren: Christopher, Ashley, and Kenny Jr.; and (3) great-grandchildren: Zachary, Abigail and Owen.

Mary was preceded in death by her son John Zagarski, her sister Sophie Derrick and brother Paul Zagarski.

Rita B. Levers

Rita B. Levers, of Madison Township, PA died Saturday at Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA at Regional Hospital following an illness. She is the wife of Fred Levers. The couple celebrated 52 years of marriage.

Born September 9, 1942 in Pittston, PA, she is the daughter of Helen (Baker) Budzak, and the late John Budzak. She was a 1960 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Elizabeth, NJ. She is a graduate of Penn State University.

Rita had a twenty year career at Haddon-Craftsman in Scranton as a production Estimator. She enjoyed her present employment at James T. O’Hara, Inc. as office manager. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Moscow, PA.

Rita enjoyed gardening, cooking, Pittsburgh Steelers games on Sunday, visiting the beach and Harley rides with her husband. She will be dearly missed by her family.

Rita’s family would like to extend thanks to Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Commonwealth Hospice for their kind and loving care to Rita.

Joppy M. Wauran, 58, of Scranton died Saturday at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville following an illness. His wife is Yetty D. Kainde Wauran. The couple were married for 34 years.

Born January 20, 1956 in Parepei, Indonesia, he is the son of the late Daan and Agustina Wauran.

Joppy was pastor of the Rochester Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Rochester, NH He loved to play guitar and sing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters Marlynn and Angeline; (4) sisters; and (2) brothers and nieces and nephews.

John J. Stevens

John J. Stevens, of Scranton, died Saturday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, the former Karen McCormick; daughter, Lindsey; and granddaughter, Myla Stevens; daughter, Molly Stevens and her fiancé, Matt Ruane; and stepchildren, Paul and Ashley McHale.

Born in North Scranton, son of the late William and Alice Clarke Stevens, he was a 1977 graduate of Scranton Technical High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served from 1977 to 1981 as a wheeled vehicle mechanic with the First Cavalry Division, Ft. Hood, Texas. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve, and served as a construction supervisor, retiring at the rank of master sergeant. He spent most of his career as a supervisory manager for the 99th Army Reserve Command Center in Pittsburgh. Before his death, he worked at Simplex Industries in Scranton.

Johnny loved life, spending time with his family, an endless list of friends telling stories, singing and dancing. He was an avid golfer, and a devoted fan of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. His pride and joy in life were his two daughters, whom he fondly referred to as Munster and Mooch. He was proud to be “Papa Johnny” to granddaughter, Myla.

He is also survived by 10 brothers and sisters, Maryann Stevens, Bill Stevens, June Schofield, Joan Stevens, Alicemarie Keisling, Carol Zarcone, Linda Jenkins, Frank Stevens, Paul Stevens and Jim Stevens; his brothers and sisters-in law; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gary M. Keisling.

A Mass of Christian Burial with military honors will be held : Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church on Penn Avenue in Scranton.

Friends and family attending are asked to go directly to the church.

Donna Marie Hiller, 47, of Scranton, died Monday at home. She was the widow of Russell H. Hiller, who died in 2002.

Born June 22, 1967, in Scranton, daughter of the late Joseph M. and MaryAnn (Nole) Woodbridge, Donna was employed by AAA Auto Parts before her illness. She previously worked as a nursing assistant and in the cosmetology field.

Donna was very skilled at crafting and decorating. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are two daughters, Dawn M. Kucharski and companion, Rafael Caban, Scranton; and Bridgette Jette, Avoca; a son, Brett H. Hiller, Scranton; a brother, Michael Woodbridge, Scranton; seven grandchildren; a niece and nephew; and her sister-in-law, Sharon Evans, Scranton.

Charles L. Slaughter, 67, of Scranton, and formerly of Grenloch, NJ, died Thursday evening in Commonwealth Hospice in Scranton following an illness. His wife is the former Karen (Miller) Pfefferkorn.

Born June 24, 1947 in Woodbury, NJ, he is the son of the late Samuel and Edith (Bachelor) Slaughter. Prior to his retirement, he was employed in the Trucking Industry for 40 years, and was a Teamsters union member.

Surviving in addition to his wife are (2) daughters: Suzanne Bowser and husband James, and Diann Dare and husband Dallas – all of New Jersey; (12) grandchildren; and (2) step-sisters: Edith and Helen.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Slaughter.

Phillip R. Gowins

Phillip R. Gowins, 69, of Scranton died Tuesday at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton after being stricken ill at home. His wife is the former Dawn Roberts. Born May 30, 1945 in Minnesota, he is the son of the late Edward R. and Barbara Gowins.

Phillip was raised and educated in Minnesota and Indiana, and has resided in Scranton the past seven years. Phillip and his wife Dawn were owners of Hyposis Horizons, Inc. of Scranton. He was also a custom cabinet maker and published author. He was a member of the National Guild of Hypotists, and the Sufi Order International.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Heather D. Lytle and husband Daron of Washington, DC, and Belinda Lee Brown and husband James of Jermyn, PA; (1) son: Christopher R. Gowins of Arizona; (1) brother: Donald Gowins of Delaware; and (4) grandchildren: Nicole, Nadia, Daniel and Isabella.

A memorial service will be conducted at a date and time to be announced.

Louise L. Healey

Louise L. Healey, 80, of Taylor, died Sunday morning at the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton following an illness. She is the widow of Gerald Healey, who died in 2011.

Born Dec. 15, 1933, in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late John and Lorraine (Meade) Osborne. Louise loved music and singing, and performed in a local band earlier in her life.

Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Vivian R. Bartlow, Taylor; her granddaughter, Alice Bartlow; grandsons, Shaun Bartlow and Stephen Bartlow; and two great-grandchildren, JoAnna and Marie; her sister-in-law, Donna Osborne, Scranton.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, John “Jack” Osborne; and her son, Donald J. Bartlow, on Aug. 6, 2013.
